San Carlos Area Council News - October 23, 2009
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The next meeting of the San Carlos Area Council (SCAC) is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the San Carlos Library at 7:00pm. We are pleased to have Senior Park Ranger Tracey Walker as our guest speaker. Tracey will provide us with an update on one of the jewels in the San Carlos area, including how the Water Authority projects are affecting hiking and biking trails in the park and how the City's budget problems will impact the staffing. We hope to see you at the meeting.

The SCAC thanks Ricardo Moran, Disaster Outreach Coordinator of the local chapter of the American Red Cross, for his presentation about preparing for the next disaster, from a wildfire to an earthquake. His remarks were punctuated by humor, but made his point about the 3-part preparedness program he discussed. Mr. Moran handed out a CD titled  "Before the Threat - Are You Prepared?" and a pamphlet, containing checklists, a planning guide and information sources in the event of a disaster. He exhibited the contents of a First Aid kit, which can be purchased from the Red Cross. For more information, please visit their website at www.sdarc.org.

Our thanks to everyone who wrote to Mayor Sanders about not using the parking lot at Jackson and Golfcrest for a homeless shelter. It was not a good selection.

Please consider signing up for the Area Council "Interested Party" e-mail list. If you would like to receive information about speakers, meeting reminders and agendas and other local news, please send an e-mail message to jfpilch@hotmail.com and you will be added to the list.
