What started as solely an April 10th event with the Rock Church and Starlight Musical Theatre has now evolved as a beautiful, ongoing partnership. For the past several weeks volunteers from the church have been pouring in hours of dedicated work into improving Starlight.

Michael McCafferty, Project Manager for the Rock Church, stated that “with God’s help over 1,100 Rock Church Volunteers have completed the painting and installation of 3,876 Starlight chairs, painted dressing rooms, restrooms, hallways, and the audience entrance wall. We have cleaned up both inside the theater, stage area, backstage, and cleared off the back deck…We have loaded over 45,000 pounds of junk into 9 dumpsters up with everything from a Volkswagen engine to old steel props. We have cleaned the concessions kitchen, rearranged the wardrobe room, cleared out the orchestra pit, and climbed light towers.”

Volunteers have worked tirelessly—refurbishing the 64 year old establishment in time for its June 17th opening. With music, good food, and energetic people the project has helped bring the San Diego community together.

“I’m thrilled to see Starlight Musical Theatre revitalized by the efforts of so many amazing individuals,” says Carlos Mendoza, Starlight’s Artistic Director. “It’s a great thing to see people so dedicated to preserving a San Diego tradition. We have an exciting season lined up for this summer, and the face-lift that the Rock has provided will only make the new season that much more enjoyable.”

Starlight’s 2010 summer season includes the timely 50's classic Suds: The Rocking 60's Musical, The Pajama Game, and Hello, Dolly! Ticket prices are $10, $25, $35, $45, and $75. Our ongoing Kids Free Program allows children 12 and under free admission on Thursdays and Sundays with a full paid adult.
