Foster is off and running - literally! The students are enthusiastically participating in the walk-run program before school and at recess. They earn a necklace and then a "foot" for every 10 miles they run. Some ran over 100 miles last year! We have some very dedicated and healthy kids!
Our PTA is enrolling members now and we're hoping that every family will join. The PTA funds pay for so many important programs and activities including field trips, assemblies, Red Ribbon week, art program, P.E. and playground equipment, library books, etc. Our first fundraiser will be the Foster Jog-a-Thon which will be held on October 3rd. With so many fantastic runners, this will surely raise a lot of money for our school!
Foster is one of the schools that was fortunate enough to participate in the STAR Report study in which our students benefit from a 15:1 student/teacher ratio from kindergarten through second grade for the next three years. We were able to hire some very qualified teachers to help with the class-size reduction and we are very excited to be a part of this study.
Foster is going to become more committed to our recycling this year. Our fourth grade classes are going to be in charge of recycling and will be called the "Green Team." They will be easily recognized with their Green Team attire.
Our safety patrol started their "work" on the first day of school and are doing a great job escorting several students across Orcutt Street every morning and afternoon. Parents who want to avoid traffic in front of the school are parking on Orcutt Street and letting their students cross safely at the cross walk.
