Foster Elementary School - January 2009 News

Foster Elementary School staff, parents and students have been busy all through December, and have not missed a beat since we got back from the winter break! Right before the break the fourth and fifth grade students participated in their first Battle of the Books competition. The cheering on of teammates echoed throughout the school, so it was very apparent that it was a lot of fun! There will be another "Battle" in the spring.

Foster participated in a program called Heavenly Hats. It was initiated by a 10-year-old boy who wanted to give hats to people who have lost their hair due to health issues. He started Heavenly Hats and it has been going strong for about 8 years. Foster students brought in $1 each for the "right" to wear a hat on Friday. They made around $350 and the money will buy hats for several people in need.

Foster's PTA president, Brock Scott, is starting a project to repaint a mural on a wall adjacent to the lunch arbor. He is going to trace the outlines of children around the world. He will then put "paint by number" sections on the children and Foster students will then paint the children. It is a huge undertaking but it will surely be worth all the time!

There will be many events in the coming months, so please call the school to see how you can get involved.

Foster Elementary School is located in the Allied Gardens community.
