Marvin Elementary School News
Marvin Elementary School is investigating the possibility of offering a new kindergarten program for the 2007-2008 school year. The program will be designed for any child who will be 5 years old by December 2, 2007 and for whatever reason the parents feel that the regular kindergarten program would not be appropriate for their child.

This would essentially be a two-year kindergarten program with a developmental first year and a regular district kindergarten program in the second year. The new program would be full day and would be fluid in the sense that if a child demonstrates the need to progress to the regular kindergarten they would have to opportunity to do so after consultation with the teacher and parents.

This new program is not intended as a remedial or special services program, but rather a developmentally appropriate first year kindergarten to prepare students socially and emotionally for a smooth transition to a traditional kindergarten classroom the following year.

Since Marvin would open this program for any age-appropriate child, even those that live outside the Marvin community, enrollment will be on a first-come basis with students from the Marvin community having priority. If you live outside the Marvin community and wish your child to attend your neighborhood school or school of choice for the following year's district kindergarten program, that will be allowed as well as attending Marvin's regular kindergarten program.

In order for the program to run next year, Marvin needs a commitment from at least 18 parents. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Terry Piper by email at tpiper@sandi.net or by phone at (619) 583-1355.
