Marvin Elementary School News

Mark your calendars for our Fall Carnival. The theme this year is "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The carnival will take place on November 8th from 2:00 to 6:00pm. We will have food, and lots of games and prizes. Children can dress up however they want: Halloween costumes, Turkey costumes, or Santa hats. It will be a fun filled afternoon you don't want to miss!

Our November Dine-Out is scheduled for November 20th at the Rubio's on Mission Gorge. Rubio's is donating 20% of all sales back to our school, when you present your flier at the time of purchase. You can visit there anytime after 3:00pm for the school to receive credit.

Marvin is piloting a special education program that was adopted by the Board of Education in January. It is a research base program based on the studies and principals of Dr. Thomas Hehir. The focus of the report is to service all students at their home school, whatever the special need is in a more inclusive model. Marvin wanted to pilot the program so that we could be the first to experience the expected successes and problem solve in time to develop plans to deal with the challenges. Because we are piloting the program we are given a great deal of latitude on how to organize and structure it to fit the needs of all of our students and our teachers.

Ms Robyn Hancock, our science teacher, continues to help develop our science program at Marvin. This year we have a new science program at all grade levels. We recently received our test scores for science at the fifth grade, the only grade tested and 80% of our students are at/or above the state standard.

The best news of all that Marvin is pleased to announce our Standardized Test Scores for this Year. We really moved ahead of our goals and met each of our targets! Thank you to each and every parent for sending their child ready to do their best during these tense testing times. Thank you to our staff, who has, over the last seven years that we have been a team, provided ever improving teaching practice to improve the level of student achievement for ALL of our students!

Please remember to support our PTF and our parent leadership groups as their efforts and contributions are the backbone of our school.
