New Community Entrance Sign for Redwood Village

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - County Supervisor Ron Roberts, Council President Pro Tem Jim Madaffer and Redwood Village Community Council President Anna Orzel-Arneta dedicated a new decorative community entrance sign at the entrance to Redwood Village. It was a joint project between Council President Pro Tem Jim Madaffer, County Supervisor Ron Roberts, the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego.

"Welcome to Grantville" community entrance sign

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - Council President Pro Tem Jim Madaffer recently announced that a decorative community entrance sign has been installed at the entrance to Grantville. The sign is located on Friars Road just west of Santo Road at the boundary of District 7 and District 6.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - Ah…Summer, brown hills and dead weeds. Wasn't it just weeks ago that we saw yellow blooms all over at Lake Murray? There were blue skies, reflections of reeds, hills and Cowles Mountain mirrored on the water. Summertime at the lake means baby bunnies, vocal birds of all kinds (think mocking bird), and tiny ducklings following mom like a kindergarteners lined up behind the teacher on their way back to class.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - A last-minute reprieve by the San Diego City Council has spared the least expensive, close-in tent-camping experience in the county from the budget ax. Kumeyaay Lake Campground in Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) will now remain open Thursday through Sunday nights through Labor Day, but only Friday and Saturday nights during the rest of the year.

West Nile Virus Can Be Deadly

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - West Nile virus continues its spread in San Diego County, and in the past week, 35 dead birds have tested positive for the disease, County Vector Control officials announced today. Among the latest dead birds
were 31 American crows, two Western scrub jays, and two red-shouldered hawks. The birds were found in Alpine, Boulevard, Carlsbad, Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Del Mar Heights, Encinitas, Escondido, Oceanside,Ramona, Santee, Scripps Ranch, Solana Beach and Vista. This week’s count brings the year’s total to 251 dead birds. Eight sentinel chickens, seven mosquito pools, one horse and three humans also have been infected.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) – City Councilmember Scott Peters today added his name to the list of prominent San Diegans who are endorsing Judge Jan Goldsmith for San Diego City Attorney.  Peters, a candidate for City Attorney in the June primary, cited Goldsmith’s experience and respect for the law as his reasons for endorsing Goldsmith in this November’s general election.

Grantville Redevelopment Area

Council President Pro Tem Jim Madaffer announced today the City Council, acting as the City’s Redevelopment Agency, voted to accept a settlement agreement on litigation that has delayed implementation of Grantville Redevelopment Area.  The Grantville redevelopment area will produce over $600 million in tax increment to be invested in infrastructure amenities including the San Diego River Park, a new library and recreation center for Allied Gardens as well as numerous traffic and flooding improvements to the Grantville area.
