Momentum Middle School has had a busy first month of school. Back to School Night was well attended by parents eager to see what their children are learning, and to meet and welcome new staff.
Academically, two math teams have been formed. The first is composed of 7th and 8th graders, and the second team is made up of 6th graders. These dedicated students meet during the week and on Saturdays to learn and advance their math skills. They will be competing throughout the year at various math competitions, both locally and nationwide. These competitions include Math Counts, math league and AMC8. We wish these students the best of luck in their endeavors!
In addition, our Science Fair Club is up and running. MMS is looking forward to some interesting projects, to compete in the Greater San Diego Science Fair in March. Students chosen for that event compete against students from many San Diego schools, and winners compete nationally. We have high hopes for our students' projects!
Our engineering elective has also gotten off to a good start. The students are busy learning a new 3D modeling computer program. All are happy that Robotics is once again included in the program.
Momentum's first fundraiser was a huge success. Over $1,300 was raised at a rummage sale. All the money goes towards student field trips, including 6th grade camp, 7th grade Medieval Times, and 8th grade Washington D.C. trip. Our 7th graders have their first field trip scheduled to see the Midway air carrier.
Finally, Momentum is proud to announce that our accreditation is complete!! This rigorous three-year process confirms all the hard work and achievement of the school. Congratulations to all involved, for all their dedication and hard work!
